Robert Zimmerman, MS

Founder & President

With over 30 years of experience in Health IT consulting and auditing at Anderson Consulting, as a partner at Deloitte, and as CEO of QIX Robert co-founded HTAA in 2015 and has since served over 200 healthcare clinics with IT security and compliance services. Robert also led diversity and inclusion efforts at Deloitte, and is committed to empowering women and minorities in Health IT. He is a noted speaker on cyber security, and developed and piloted HTAA's Health IT curriculum.

Carol Loftur-Thun

Executive Director

Carol has over 20 years of experience as CEO, Executive Director, and interim CXO of local, regional and international nonprofits. She led efforts to raise over $31 million for charitable efforts, and managed organizations with over 90 employees to lead successful turnarounds, mergers, and re-starts for nonprofits addressing healthcare and Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) including mental health, suicide, domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, hunger and homelessness. Carol was born in Ecuador and studied in India.

Dr. Arti Patel Varanasi, Ph.D, MPH, CPH

Director of Health IT Training

Arti is passionate about leveraging tech to increase health equity and help people live longer, healthier lives. She has over 25 years of experience in public health, cancer research, project management, capacity-building and advocacy as CEO of Advancing Synergy LLC, as a National Cancer Institute fellow, and as a graduate of the National Science Foundation's program for women tech entrepreneurs. She served on the National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice, and serves on numerous regional boards.

Adam Bullian, JD

Director of Compliance Services

Adam specializes in working with healthcare providers to create HIPAA and 42 CFR 2 compliance programs. He focuses on policy and procedure development, implementation, staff training and incident response, as well as Business Associate Agreements (BAA). He also provides Compliance & Security Officer services and is a noted expert on SUD, Behavioral Health, Minor Consent, and other complex areas of HIPAA and HITECH law. Adam founded On Call, a nonpartisan political action committee to elect medical professionals to Congress.

Kristine Stallings, RN

Director of Security & Training Services

Kristine has been a registered nurse since 2004 and knows the unique challenges clinicians face not only on the care side, but the administrative side too.  She started her nursing career in an OB/GYN office and worked in labor and delivery, post-partum, rehabilitation, and long-term care settings providing care to some of our most underserved populations before working with QIX and now HTAA. Kristine helps clinics implement practical, comprehensive privacy and security measures through coaching and training.

Carlos Navarro

Director of Member Engagement

Carlos brings strong bilingual customer service skills from healthcare consulting, personal banking, medical insurance and patient support services to build beneficial long-lasting relationships with clinics and providers. He ensures members can successfully engage and have outstanding client services experiences with HTAA, as well as achieve their strategic and organizational goals. Carlos is especially passionate about bringing HTAA's services to clinics in Puerto Rico impacted by Hurricane Maria.

Meet Our Interns

Ty Stokes

A Marketing & Communications major and graduating senior at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Ty is using his writing skills to help build our websites

and social media. Ty is especially interested in how HTAA can help clinics reduce health disparities in rural communities. 

Moses Adede

Moses is a videographer and graphic artist from Kenya who is now studying at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada. Moses is helping to design our HTAA logo, business cards, and websites. He is passionate about video, and is creating videos to showcase our Health IT training.

Abeerah Qadir

Abeerah is pursuing her Masters in Health Information Technology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County after majoring in Biology. Abeerah is performing data analysis, learning HubSpot, and researching statistics for HTAA reports and articles.
