Robert Zimmerman, MS

Founder & President

With over 30 years of experience in Health IT consulting and auditing at Anderson Consulting, as a partner at Deloitte, and as CEO of QIX Robert co-founded HTAA in 2015 and has since served over 200 healthcare clinics with IT security and compliance services. Robert also led diversity and inclusion efforts at Deloitte, and is committed to empowering women and minorities in Health IT. He is a noted speaker on cyber security, and developed and piloted HTAA's Health IT curriculum.

Carol Loftur-Thun, CPHIMS

Executive Director

Carol has over 20 years of experience as CEO, Executive Director, and interim CXO of local, regional and international nonprofits. She led efforts to raise over $31 million for charitable efforts, and managed organizations with over 90 employees to lead successful turnarounds, mergers, and re-starts for nonprofits addressing healthcare and Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) including mental health, suicide, domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, hunger and homelessness. Carol was born in Ecuador and studied in India.

Dr. Arti Patel Varanasi, Ph.D, MPH, CPH

Director of Health IT Training

Arti is passionate about leveraging tech to increase health equity and help people live longer, healthier lives. She has over 25 years of experience in public health, cancer research, project management, capacity-building and advocacy as CEO of Advancing Synergy LLC, as a National Cancer Institute fellow, and as a graduate of the National Science Foundation's program for women tech entrepreneurs. She served on the National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice, and serves on numerous regional boards.

Carlos Navarro

Director of Member Engagement

Carlos brings strong bilingual customer service skills from healthcare consulting, personal banking, medical insurance and patient support services to build beneficial long-lasting relationships with clinics and providers. He ensures members can successfully engage and have outstanding client services experiences with HTAA, as well as achieve their strategic and organizational goals. Carlos is especially passionate about bringing HTAA's services to clinics in Puerto Rico impacted by Hurricane Maria.

Meet Our Interns

Alexander Rawlett

Alexander is a graduate student at the University of Maryland, College Park, majoring in Information Systems.His specialties include proficiency in technologies such as Caspio, Java, SQL, and Python, coupled with a deep understanding of operating systems including Windows suite, Mac OS, Linux, and MS-DOS. With previous internships with the United States Army, Alexander has honed his problem-solving abilities, project management skills, and adaptability in dynamic environments.

Meghan Dhond

Meghan is an undergraduate Public Health student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She uses her Public Health knowledge to bridge the gap between healthcare and analytics here at HTAA. Meghan is researching to provide knowledgeable content for our newsletter. She has a passion for applying her research to bring awareness to address the disparities in the healthcare industry.
